I think we must also cut off the demand side of the equation by having serious penalties for employing illegal aliens. It's not that difficult.
This might be a nuance that isn't really worth debating over, but I don't think the penalties on the employers need to be excessively harsh. The punishment doesn't really fit the crime in this case.

Like I said, we need to pursue policies that are friendly to small businesses and job creation. Make it easy for them to verify the legal status of their employees. Make it easy for them to do all of the paperwork, etc.

To come down on the job creators with an iron fist is counterproductive.
