Cruz has been making a big push among evangelicals who are disproportionately represented among Iowa Republicans. He is a very smart guy. Laying back, letting others take hits, while he quietly aims to win Iowa. It would not be surprising to be if he does. I doubt if he can win NH, but he can surely take SC, and build some real momo. It could come down to Cruz v. Trump in the end, with Rubio and Bush on the outside trailing by a couple of lengths.

But still plenty of time left in this horse race to turn things around. Heck, the base hated both McCain and Romney until shortly before they got the nomination, and then they decided they were OK. The same phenomenon could easily happen with Bush as well. And Bush's people haven't unleashed their really vile side yet--it will happen when the actual primaries are much closer than they are now. Perhaps the base won't change their minds as easily as in prior elections, but it will happen if he is the nominee. And all the folks who say that they won't for Bush will vote for him if it comes to that. That is what gives the GOPe such power.
