I think the main problem is us, the industrialized, consuming, capitalist humans. Our carbon 'footprints' are the largest in the world. They require massive infrastructure and energy to produce all the crap we consume. Although the mud-hutters and shack dwellers outnumber and out-breed us, they aren't the AGW perpetrators.
We've sold that to the entire world though our excellent, persuasive television media, translated into a hundred different tongues. All the people in the world want our lifestyle, and we happily sell it to them. They're pursing educations and upward mobility. They want houses with electricity and plumbing, TV's, Xboxes, automobiles. They want to live like those blessed Americans on TV.
We're reaping the unsustainable example we have set for the world. But, we were a fortunate nation in it's prime, in it's peak time, blessed by not being bombed to ashes in WWII, starting on third base and believing it made us exceptional.
I don't know how we can now convince the world that it's just not possible for us ALL to live as if we were 5% of the world's population consuming 25% of the world's production. Sorry! |
