So, does Neftlix expands to Australia or not? I'm not even sure the "Australia" news was news at all. The "news" only estimated, in a very broad range, what the current size of the subscriber base is. There was no commentary that I saw that indicated paid sub growth was ahead of expectations or even if it was inline with expectations. The moment of truth for Netflix's stock price will come when we see the Q4 results release and subsequent comments. There are two items to watch very closely. - The first is domestic subs. This number hiccuped last quarter (presumably due to the credit card issues). If this number disappoints again, watch out. The international sub number creates the buzz, but the domestic number pays the bills. - The second thing to watch will be the effect of the changes they described to the methodology that they use to amortize content costs. This change will very likely continue to pull COGS forward which will increase Short Term Liabilities and decrease reported "profits". While everyone knows it's coming, the degree of the impact is only a guess without inside information. If the degree of the impact is greater than expected, this could also trigger a negative response. Until then, I'd expect continued volatility in both directions.
