I paid for a lot of my college selling a little pot and playing poker. I never sold or used anything but pot (I did LSD three times only) and only sold enough to give me a stake in a poker game. I got my kilos from a local surfer dude. $50 and they were wrapped in colored cellophane. Yellow, red, blue and green as I remember.
They wet the pot down so they could put it into a press, so sometimes it was little moldy (I would put it in the oven to dry it out) and filled with weeds. I broke it up into 32 separate ounces we called lids. I sold the lids for $10 a lid. All of the fine stuff I put into a 3 pound coffee can.
I was managing a six Plex at the time and I only rented to my hippie friends. I also shared my pot with the people who lived in my building. The building sat sideways to the street so it just faced another building and was very private. Because no one drank, but just smoked, it was always quite as a church mouse. And everybody always paid the rent on time.
Life was good in those days, I would get up about 11 go have some lunch, come back and get stoned, turn on some music and read all afternoon with the door slightly open to let the warm California breeze come in. At night we went from house to house, to visit, get stoned and listen to music. Not sure why I ever stopped it, I never had a better life. Very little work, lots of time to read, and laughing parties every night. Hard to beat that. And women were available. Not sure what else there is in life.
During my debate with the drinkers over the weekend, I pointed out, if pot did any brain damage, there's no way I could be playing winning high-stakes poker against mostly professional poker players at 74. Well 74 in a couple of days:)>. Not to brag, but for perspective purposes, too old for ego, I did when almost $7000 in my 14 days of play. So these were serious poker games. $20/$40. I'm going to San Jose on Friday to play at the Bay 101, and I'm going to step it up to the $40/$80 game and see how that goes. I'm pretty excited to see what kind of players I'm going to face. I have never played $40/$80. $30/$60 is about as much as I played on a regular basis. I have played a little $50/$100, but not much. The personalities really change as you move into the higher limits. You get better players of course, but you also get really rich guys who just have so much money they can't stand to play at the lower limits, and we all sort of feed off them.
It seems like we're quickly moving away from reefer madness, and into the realm of, maybe it's not so bad. No fetal pot syndrome :)>.But I have a theory pot makes you smart. I don't think most people are ready for that one yet though :)>.
I was surprised at how strong the stuff was I bought in the store down here. It only took a couple hits. |
