CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Joey Slye kicked a 41-yard field goal with 1:38 remaining Saturday and Virginia Tech gave retiring Frank Beamer his 12th consecutive win over Virginia, 23-20, and a chance to coach his team in one more bowl game.

A week after losing in the final home game of Beamer's 29 years as coach, the Hokies (6-6, 4-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) didn't let him down on the road. Chuck Clark sealed the outcome with an interception with 59 seconds remaining.

The Hokies will go to a bowl game for the 23rd consecutive season.

Justin Fuente will become the next football coach at Virginia Tech, a source confirmed to ESPN's Brett McMurphy on Saturday.

Fuente, who has revived the program at Memphis, will replace revered Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer, who announced earlier this month that he will retire at the end of this season.

Longtime Hokies defensive coordinator Bud Foster and associate head coach Shane Beamer will remain on Virginia Tech's staff under Fuente, the source told McMurphy.

Glad to see that Bud Foster will be staying on, but Beamer will be missed.
