<Management...incompetent> Nope. Apple has a 'fix-it' list and is checking it twice! A few weeks ago I was dumbfounded by the confusing signals and felt the same as you. When I began to think differently about their goals the fog lifted. I believe Apple finally has direction -a solid plan in the works.

<Am I missing something?> Maybe we all have missed the obvious.
Their last three SEC filings put forth some cold facts. Management has been clearing away obligations and nitty-gritty stock obstacles effectively making the company more attractive to a 'change of control' type of investor. Their missed opportunities to move forward, budget-belt-tightening, housecleaning -all, IMO is in preparation to roll out the red carpet for a party who will enter at a rock bottom price.

I think Jobs correctly assessed the impossibility of Apple moving forward under present conditions. He has readied the company for a new market. A new CEO contract would only be excess baggage at this point. Whether or not there is a partner down the road, Apple is in a better position.

<i'd rather leave a couple of points on the table and buy when they have a clue.> Yes, but the down side is too short, the Jan 6 bounce too close. I'm not selling. If this were any other company I would have taken a 5 pt. profit in November. My reason for buying Apple has not changed. I believe in the product. I think the tech-world does, as well. Apple is putting its best foot forward. I am proud.

Do you have any 'what-if' ideas on a future partner? IBM and Apple? ... anyone but Oracle, Please! Its the one scenario that could cause me to unload.

Season's Greetings,
Bell
