I think what is motivating many is that at present consumption rates the known world oil reserves get depleted in 50 years.

Sorry uncle west, there is nothing that supports that statement. That canard has been around basically for a century. IF and WHEN oil actually becomes scarce, it will be priced accordingly, and we still won't run out. Basic economics.
