Alcoa Is Substantially Undervalued And Offers A Free Call Option On The Upstream Business

Dec. 1, 2015 1:41 AM ET | 4 comments | About: Alcoa, Inc. (AA) by: Pluton Research

Disclosure: I am/we are long AA. (More...)I wrote this article myself, and it expresses my own opinions. I am not receiving compensation for it (other than from Seeking Alpha). I have no business relationship with any company whose stock is mentioned in this article.

Summary
The Value-Add business is worth more than the entire current Alcoa share price.

This leaves investors a free call option on Alcoa's upstream assets, and the upcoming split will unlock this value within a year.

It is hard to see aluminum continuing to fall, and even modest increases in pricing can drive tremendous upside.

Investors can also potentially benefit from successful activist involvement, and a combination of rising aluminum prices and margin expansion can generate substantial long-term capital appreciation.
