My first time on SI.

I have been following KESE with some interest for the past two months or since the FSS pick. This forum has definetly enlighten me as to some of the on goings of the FSS...

Just a note to anybody who cares about power in California.

I have spent the last five years living on the beach in San Diego. It sickened me to sometimes get a $200+ bill from the power Co. (SDG&E) for a two bedroom apartment to keep the air condtioning running during the summer months.

In my own informal survey I couldn't find a single person who is happy with their rates no matter where they live in CA and most people are aware that CA rates are higher than the national average (or so they say). And most would love to have some sort of choice in the matter.

With respect to the deregulation of the power services, many comparisons and references have been made to the de-regulation of the phone companies. I read quite a few of the postings and reports and nobody has mentioned the differences (they talk alot about the similarities) between phone and power.

You can come home to your phone not working and have it be an inconvience. (My girlfriend would disagree with me on the 'inconvience' part).

You can come home to your power not working and now you can't live (cook, heat, A/C etc.).

The point summarized:

A: People in CA will flock in mass at the opportunity to get cheaper power.

B: The market today moves much faster than it did 10+ years ago.

C: Service really doesn't matter as much to the comsumer as cost.

All of which brings me to my humble opinion that come January 1998 there will be an absolute frenzy of people signing up with any discount power service they can find.

Fortunately there is not to much longer to wait and see what will really come out of all this.

Olav
