Global appetite for information technology still voracious, inspite of Asian crisis and overcapacity in some technology sectors.

Kemble: After going through this BW article and many others, all I can say is that the opinions are as diverse as their projections and it is very hard for me to say who is right and who is not.

The good news though is that 'technology' still is the fastest growing segment and global spending for information technology is projected to go up by a healthy 9.5% in 1998. Disk drive manufacturers, and memory chip makers will have hard time due to over capacity and will have to work their way through this mess by shutting down plants and reducing capacity in other ways to a sustainable level.

Perhaps we all should close the windows, pull the cover over our heads, assume a fetal position and just sleep through this crisis, and wake up when this is all over.
