You used to hold me to the highest esteem, I have not changed.
I founded EZchip and am working hard for all of you for the last 15 years.
EZchip entered the NPU market when it was extremely crowded and competitive.
We have created the world's best technology.
We have won the world's largest tier-1 vendors.
Competition gave up and NP-5 today is the only high speed merchant NPU.
EZchip is a great success story and I am very proud.
The only down side to that great story is that THE MARKET IS SMALL.
The size of the market is not in EZchip's control.
All analysts were wrong in estimating the NPU market.
NPS is the first chip of a new generation of NPUs that is C programmable.
It is an outstanding technology, nothing like it in the market.
It is targeting a very large TAM, combining the TAM for NPUs and Multi Core CPUs.
NPS is a high end chip that is targeting the highest speeds of that TAM.
NPS was designed to win the ASR 9000, NPS is a router on a chip, that's the primary target.
It is targeting SDN/NFV white box routers, that's where I think the volume is.
It can win many other networking applications but the volume is in routing.
To provide growth, NPS must win enough to offset the loss of carrier routers to in house NPUs (Cisco, Juniper, Huawei).
Data center routing is simpler compared to carrier routing, it does not need to support all routing protocols and users in the world.
There is a risk that simpler lower cost chips, that are not NPUs, will win the vast majority of white box routers.
If that happens, it could significantly reduce the addressable market of NPS.
You can call me names, attack my integrity, question the reasons of why I am on that board.
I know other CEOs don't do it, I am probably the first one, I simply care too much.
And I know the market, the customers and the competition better than anyone on that board.
