fences ....

when we built the house we've been living in the past 30+ years I designed it and served as my own GC..

I journeyed into the hills of Arkansas and bought nine living cypress trees. Had a sawyer from OK go in, cut them down, snake them out, saw them into full 1 in thick random width (used as much raw cypress as the tree would yield) and air dried them for a full year.

Ended up with close to 30K board feet for which I used most in the exposed wood on the house inside and outside but I did construct about 150 ft of eight foot wood fence.
Reason I bring this up is that I am still using the original fence ... only one in the neighborhood that hasn't been replaced multiple times. Metal posts set in concrete are the only way to go.

Not a whole lot of difference in granite and big size dimension lumber ..... just very heavy and yet fragile .... sawed it using water cooled diamond blade with a 8in hand held Makita circular along a big aluminum rail.... used a wet Makita grinder with diamond pads and bought a couple of cherry pickers, a gantry crane, hoist and constructed four tables from YP treated 2x6 and 4x4s.

cut slow, cut wet and don't pick up anything heavier that 50 lbs (use the machinery and tables) ... that's the way old folks like me do it ....

just mostly buy computers now as I can't come close to building one as cheaply as I can buy one on sale.
