GROUND ZERO™

I finished building the structure of our outhouse yesterday.
The pit is 4'x4x'4', lined with 1" cedar boards.
We had heavy rain last week, after we opened the pit. The pit perked very good.
Placed a cinder block on end in the middle to control splash.

I built it on 6"x6" landscape timbers. rated ground contact. This thing is going to outlast me.
The structure is 6'x8', but the walls and roof are screwed together with coated decking screws, so it could be broken down into 5 manageable pieces, if it ever needs to be moved.

I wanted the extra space for storing my collection of rakes, picks and shovels, tamper, and a few other vegetable garden tools. I bought some 2 pronged tool holders from Duluth Trading years ago, so all of that stuff will fit nicely.

Just have to build the seat now and screw a real toilet seat on it. Also need a cutout for a small screen window or two, for light and ventilation.

And I am going to install a 3" PVC vent pipe from the tank to and through the already drilled roof. The packaged roof boot I bought is incomplete, so I'll exchange it today. That is for oder control too. I got that idea from a picture of another outhouse.

Time to complete - 2 days with a helper.
Material cost including a fiberglass coated door and premium shingles - $1075.00
Now a coat of stain and it will finished.
