Well, what I quoted were his EXACT words as I heard him say them via SKY TV, with him behind the lectern.
In addition, any reporting that we have received so far has stated that, despite those comments, his "poll rating" has not fallen. So it doesn't look like "the country" has collectively gasped in horror and disgust and has, en masse, withdrawn their support for him.

Up until recently I haven't seen the religion of Islam itself, as reflected in the Quran, as being "violent", "killing" or "dismembering" orientated.
However, yesterday I Googled something regarding the content of the Quran with regard to "Violence". Much to my surprise, as I'm certainly not a scholar or "well read" of that book, I came across the following link which quoted many passages, with references, related to how the Quran views "nonbelievers" and what should be done in that regard ...
thereligionofpeace.com
For example we have :-
"Quran (8:12) - "I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them"
"Quran (9:5) - "So when the sacred months have passed away, then slay the idolaters wherever you find them, and take them captive and besiege them and lie in wait for them in every ambush, then if they repent and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate, leave their way free to them."
"Quran (17:16) - "And when We wish to destroy a town, We send Our commandment to the people of it who lead easy lives, but they transgress therein; thus the word proves true against it, so We destroy it with utter destruction."
Now the thing is, when we have seen atrocities committed in recent times by brain washed Isis scum, we quite often see and hear those of the Islamic faith distancing themselves from those barbaric actions and stating that those acts are not of the true Islamic faith because that faith is a peaceful one.
Well, I, for one, would be interested to hear from a devout Mullah as to how he reconciles the above three direct quotes with the tenets of "peace" ? In fact, in the attached link there are many other similar examples which trend more towards violence than towards peace.
Because, at the end of the day, as I've mentioned in the past, the Islamic religion is a very regimented one in terms of how virtually every aspect of the life of a Muslim is governed and directed by the contents of the Quran. In fact, to the best of my knowledge, the more serious scholars have to virtually know and memorize the contents of the whole book, which just goes to show how their individual lives and actions are so wrapped up in its contents.
It's therefore possibly not surprising that it isn't a very large leap from ordinary practicing, law abiding Muslims to those that have been subjected to a more extreme interpretation of that book and who have been convinced as to the "authenticity" of that interpretation and who are now prepared to carry out, with a blind faith, any acts that their "religious peers" command of them.
The only thing left to do now, is to (possibly) try and determine in the years and generations ahead, as to who, in fact, were the actual "authors" of that book, because I find it hard to believe that the true nature of an Ultimate Divine Creator would be party to so much violence, death and destruction of certain members of its created humanity while apparently safeguarding the other members of its created humanity. Just doesn't make any sense to me, I'm afraid ....
