Why is that a question? It is like saying, we should ask, "why do they hate us?" Not that it isn't a valid question, it is, but it has already been asked and answered. They hate us for some justified (by them not us) reasons, and some not justified which, are based on simple ideological zealotry. No nation is an island these days in the global community sense (with apologies to Australia). So, we have interests in all parts of the world and all parts of the world have interests in what goes on here. It is understandable that those interests come into conflict. This is the way of the world and you can't eliminate it. Some of the conflict comes from ignorant extremism on the part of idealogues, sometimes these things over lap and it isn't just one sided. These are the facts. To do nothing, is to put your head in the sand. To do extreme things is to lose your soul.

America has principled interests, and strategic interests which require on going balancing efforts. It is sensible for an American to support both. This does not exist in isolation from the rest of the world where there is conflict nor does it exist within our borders where there is conflict. As an individual, I can understand being in it without being of it. But I want to keep abreast and use caution when criticizing, while employing skepticism before supporting. Extremism is an easy target, it's all the in between stuff that is difficult to sort through.

In any event, 911 is not excusable by any justifications that may be forwarded.
