I purchased a copy of Win8 earlier this year for a new build and had a devil of a time upgrading it to 8.1 in order to then upgrade it to Win10. Problem was that my update attempts kept failing and I would get an error message and I don't remember it exactly, but it was something like "This Update has Failed - Reverting Changes."

The whole process would take hours and get nowhere and as you've discovered you have to update 8.0 to 8.1 before you can install Windows 10. The only suggestion I can make is to start with a completely clean copy of 8.0 by doing a factory recovery or clean install from the original installation media. Also I recommend removing any cards you may have installed since you got the computer and don't install any 3rd Party software before attempting to update to 8.1.

I know this sounds extreme, but the issue I had was that Windows 8.0 was trying to install 187 updates and the Updater was getting confused.

Before you try this be sure to have everything backed up. This means saving all your document, media, and installation files you may have in folders on another drive and then image your OS drive. The reason for doing both is that if the update succeeds you will want to put much of your data back on your new installation and if the update fails you may want to restore your image backup and remember, you can't restore individual files from an image, because you have to restore the whole thing.

If you have any questions, I'll help all I can.

Good Luck
