The banking system wasn't wiped-out by the post-9/11 real estate bubble only because of a $1 trillion contribution from Congress and a $7 trillion contribution from the Fed.

Without this $8 trillion of government welfare the banks would have failed due to the fact they had a negative net worth. I'm sure bankruptcy is the same concept in New Zealand as in the United States.

With that level of government welfare no business or individual could ever possibly become bankrupt.
