12/11/15 Contest update
Now that Trump wants to ban Muslims from entering the U.S., which candidate will be the first to call for the same prohibition for short sellers? After this past week’s market, treating short sellers like pariahs should be extremely popular.
Meanwhile, I suppose it could have been worse as there’s no YTD red yet. At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 6.39% YTD (vs. up 14.72% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index, was up 5.35% YTD (vs. up 9.22% YTD a week ago) and the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index was up 5.39% YTD (vs. up 13.02% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 4.17% YTD (vs. up 8.58% YTD a week ago).
MOPGCW’s portfolio, up 67.37% YTD, was hit hard but remained in first place. GHMM’s portfolio, up 50.39% YTD, got a boost from GLPG, the week’s top gainer, and moved into second place, with DONS’ portfolio, up 49.44% YTD, dropping to third place.
At the week’s close, 32 of the 51 Contest portfolios were in the green with 28 beating the NBI and 28 also beating the SPSIBI. The 206 Contest stock picks have an average YTD loss of -.96% and a median YTD loss of -12.46%.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the week’s Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks.
(Foreign stock prices are not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: DARA did a reverse merger with Midatech (MTP). Merger deal involved a CVR and since we’re close to year-end, for now I’ll leave the price of DARA at $.88, the close on 12/4/15, its last day of trading.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for buyouts & splits, greatly appreciated.)
Enjoy a relaxing weekend biotechies.
Peace & good health,
Bulba
