Development stage companies often show losses as they build brand image and market share. Perhaps the best example this year is Amazon.com. Verisign just filed in the last 3 or 4 weeks. They have to complete their road show (pitching institutions). Everything is pretty well shut down until the new year. Some companies stay in registration for 3 or 4 months, for various reasons. Some offerings are postponed and some are withdrawn.
