The Fed's Rate Rise Will Not Cause Market Chaos: We'll Barely Notice It

There’s a number of people out there claiming that the coming interest rate rise from the Federal Reserve is going to cause some sort of chaos in the financial markets. This isn’t so: the price changes that arrive along with that interest rate change will be so minor that we’ll be hard put to even note them. We can argue this point from economic theory, Nobel winning theory even, or from just the more basic logic of how the world and markets work. Whatever disaster is going to strike is already striking, has already been going on these past few weeks as it becomes ever more certain that next week is when rates do rise. This is true whether we appeal to that theory of the efficient markets hypothesis or just to the point that markets are forward looking.
