I fully agree with your view on Ariad.

Among Ariad's research-objectives in particular its systematic building of a very srong patent-position around its system of pharmocologic regulation of gene- and celltherapy is in my view interesting. This, in the long run probably very rewarding, technology
seems complimentary to most current efforts in this field.

Aside of that, Ariad has expanded its research-capabilities in a big way by its joint-venture with Hoechst Marion Roussel. Hoechst-Ariad Genomics CenterLLC will have full access to all relevant technologies of both partners AND both partners have equal rights to the candidate therapeutic proteins and drugtargets, developed within this joint-venture.

And last, not least:

Ariad's part of the $ 85million investment in this joint-venture is financed by HMR's purchase for of 2.4 million shares for $ 25million and by additional purchases of a maximum of 1.8 million shares for $ 25 million (an average price of at least $ 11.40) It gives an indication of how highly Ariad's research-capabilities and input are valued within the pharmaceutical industry.

This joint venture will now, probably, be fully staffed, equiped and
operational.

I'm still happy with my position in Ariad!

Best regards,

Martin
