Mohammed.. histories say spent the last decade of his life robbing and terrorizing Arabia.... If one takes the longer 'godlike' (evolutionary) view of things, both the Roman Byzantine & Sassanid empires were constantly dealing with hostile nomadic incursions long before the rise of Islam. Whether under Muslims later or before under Christian Byzantine or Persian Sassanid rule , you can be assured the 'little guy' was always taxed to death in both cases. en.wikipedia.org

The rise of ISIL is an illusion, this fundamentalist Caliphate movement has always been there, especially the form of Wahabis & Al Qaeda, employing now more reach thru tech saavy networking recruiting. There are complex three dimensional layers inplay, serious proxy war games happening between Turkey & Russia now(Turkey & Kurds) , Saudis Yemen & Iran, Russia & Nato (US) .

In other words, same as it ever was, before... during & after Mohammed. But you can also say the same for before, during & after Jesus, these nomads were at war over water wells & land before they had today's conflicts over oil & gas...and who gets to have the solid gold toilet seats.

* If there's a god, she must surely be laughing at all this, but pretty much Nature & Human Nature, same as it ever was.
