Rod,

Keep one thing in the mind with all your enthusiasm on Java: reality! I have been doing more work in it and I like it very much, but there are a couple of things for you to keep in mind:

1) Corporations move very slowly (COBOL is still the most widely used business language). The Year 2000 problem is a good example of corporate speed.

2) Microsoft hasn't been derailed yet. I am still betting that Microsoft will make C++ / Java indistinguishable and it will migrate its huge developer pool to its flavor of Java.

3) Sun still controls Java... I look at it potentially becoming another Microsoft IF Java gets any large market penetration.
