Adam Arkin was the original "Dale the Whale" Biderbeck on Monk, along with the crazy guy in the woods on Northern Exposure.

I thought Season one ended on much more of a high note, and was the better season overall. I'd say it was analogous to Dexter seasons 1 and 2, a drop off, but still good.
