All of these firms make more money from volatility than from buy and hold. What they say and what they do are two different things. They act in concert with one another, even if there is no collusion, because they all have the same interests. Birds of a feather flock together, so even though in the longer term they are positive on a stock, they would rather see volatility to trade on across the shorter term and they all know how to push the Internet media buttons to see that happen. It's a heard mentality they control, and they are good at it.
