Cleveland was president when my land was sold. There is an interesting story behind the land as the railroad was given the odd number quarters and the even number of quarters were used as homestead. The person in congress that ran the law to give land to the railroads so they had money to build the railroads was Senator Windom from Minnesota. The homestead land and the railroad land was supposed to be sold for $5 per acre. Well Windom was rather corrupt and bought a bunch of the land from the railroad for 3 cents per acre. He purchased $30,000 of the land which the Osland homestead land was located. I have the paper work on that transaction.
