The flip in the pattern is on. The larger the pattern that changes (in this case, the Arctic Oscillation), the bigger the weather. Now, the character of the "season" changes, i.e., how storms track. These 'flips' are the bridge between weather and climate.

"As I mentioned, I expect the El Nino impact to lessen come January, the ridiculously resilient ridge to come back, and cold air shots to return to the east coast. El Nino will influence things with south snow storms from El Paso to Atlanta and up to DC.

I think DC area will have record snow fall this winter (it ain't winter, yet) as well as the whole Appalachian region. In the meantime, things brew.

Is it coming? Yes. A shot this weekend; consider it the initial shot. Things will wobble for 10 days, and then the pattern I explain above will take hold. We'll see, eh?"
