'America' as name of a single country out of thirty-some-odd on two and a half rather large eponymous continents - yeah pretty rich eh ... it does go way back, brits and french used it that way in the 1700s ... never in spanish however, where 'americanismo' refers to a term used in or originating in the Americas - a term in spanish ... anything in english is called 'inglés', lol ... the old Larousse school dictionaries used to be very clear on 'americano', translated would say 'of and pertaining to the Americas, application to single country is incorrect' ... Vasconcelos the mexican promoter of education had some harsh words on the topic ... it can be amusing, some USians out of their country can be unaware of related sentiment, or indifferent to it, not others though who can be quite savvy, maybe this is how you tell the tourists from the travellers

Well happy new year to all, we're in the thick of Winter now ... they say as the first week goes, so goes the year, and it's a full five-day week ... not sure how solid and reliable 'they say' is, best to pick and choose no doubt, but i did like the opening uptick on my contest pick
