IAS has made the following enhancements to its Automated Fingerprint Identification Machine:

Red LED light for video capture - The Red LED light enables the camera to detect
more detail than the white fluorescent light previously used. The position of the light
in relation to the lens has also changed. This change in position will cause increased
reflection and less absorption of light by the finger. As a result, the AFIM can more
accurately identify fingerprint characteristics and proper moisture is less of an issue.

Finger placement guide - A mold applied to the top of the lens will guide a person's
finger to the optimum position for camera view.

Camera changes - The improved camera will have a fixed aperture and a stronger
harness. These enhancements make the AFIM more durable for shipping and enable it
to remain "fine-tuned" for optimum performance.

New software for Windows 95 - Windows 95 based software has been written with
the following additional features:

Adjustable precision - The system administrator can set the tolerances to the
appropriate level of security. Therefore, desired false acceptance and false
rejection rates can be achieved for a particular application.

New encoding program - An option is now present which requires the fingerprint
image to be captured and digitized three different times during the encode
process. The program then "averages" the three digitized prints before recording
the resulting data. This eliminates significant variances in fingerprint data caused
by inconsistent rolling or dragging of the finger.

The AFIM also continues to possess the following capabilities:

Fingerprint reconstruction capabilities - Reconstructs cut, scraped, or worn
fingerprints to ensure an accurate comparison.

Condensed print - Requires only 100 - 150 bytes of storage space.

Patented lens - Accepts only a 3-dimensional image, cannot be fooled by a copy.

Protects privacy of fingerprint- Print is stored as a numerical code, not a graphical
image or template. Original print cannot be recreated from digital print on stolen card.

Fraud deterrent documentation capabilities - May be programmed to record the
original print of an unauthorized card-user.

These ehnancements make the AFIM more versatile, reliable, accurate, and user friendly than any other verification system. I am sure we shall see some big AFIM sales very soon.
