Actually according to Tesla's owner surveys the only time they use them (Superchargers) is on long trips which works out to less than 1% of the miles driven for the typical Tesla Model S owner.

Why would I drive many miles out of the town where I live to charge up?

Once or twice a week plugging in overnight satisfies the vast, vast majority of Tesla owners.

The body, suspension and wheel assemblies weigh less than that of the comparable BMW.

Not to mention no heavy ICE, automatic transmission, exhaust system and heavy fuel tank to haul around!
