How would you get your streaming?
Good point, I should have been more specific. I'd dump the TV portion of my Comcast bill, not the Internet access. I've been very happy with their Internet service.

My parents have DirecTV and I like it a lot. The interface now looks a bit dated on their DVRs compared to Comcast's X1 box, but the X1 doesn't properly back up 10 seconds or so after fast forwarding so you don't go past the beginning of what you want to see. DirecTV and TiVo DVRs do. Unfortunately I can't get DirecTV where I live, nowhere to put the disk and my view of the southeastern sky is blocked by trees anyway.

I know what you mean about the safety of a land line, but I've taken the risk and just use my cellphone now. In the last two storms that knocked out power, cell service was still available even though the Internet was down. I also have an external battery that can charge my phone at least 2x if power stays out for too long.
