I understand your point of view.
The propensity for Apple to make money on the memory is just too much. But I look at it as paying them for the OS, which is worth it. I expect to see the same sort of thing on SSDs in the future.

I don't know, but I can imagine that minimizing user expansions improves reliability. The only time I've had problems with a Mac were when the memory I got was lousy; once the mfr. replaced it I was fine.
I bought a MacBook Pro a few months ago, the low-end one, it has 8GB and an SSD, and I cannot find one thing I'd change about it. I can imagine I'll still be using it for several years which is about all one can ask.
