The only thing I use the Chromecast for is to view video files that won't play via a USB plugged into my DVD player. That connection can play .avi files, but not .mkv or .mp4 or any of the other video formats. Also, if I convert a .mp4 file into a .avi file, for some reason it doesn't play when on a USB plugged into the DVD player.

All those files can play on a PC, so if I have a video in that format that I want to watch, I play it on the PC and stream it onto the TV using Chromecast.

So it works for me, but I only use it when that problem pops up.
