Hillary Got TS/SCI In Her "Personal, Unclassified" E-mail ?
The news yesterday... revealed an e-mail in which Hillary committed clear, specific violations of the law, directing the removal of classification stamps from classified data to enable sending it by insecure means.
Given that as evidence, anyone who was NOT Hillary Clinton would be spending 5 years in jail, just for that... perhaps more... and, certainly more given the mass of evidence pairing it with myriad other violations... including the existence and use made of the private e-mail accounts. I think the reaction to yesterday's revelation, on the part of most security professionals... would probably be smug satisfaction, given the already too obvious problem, with many a raised eyebrow previously, given her denials not stacking up well against the rest of the evidence that's been piling up.
Today... the NATURE of the proof contained in that email "directive" she penned, suddenly takes on a whole new significance... as it shows Hillary purposefully working to subvert the purpose and function of the SYSTEM of classification of information... to benefit herself.
Additional evidence arriving today suggests that was perhaps not a "one off" event... or the limit of the effort being made.
Today... what we see... is what appears to be TS/SCI from sigint sources showing up as "unclassified" information in her incoming e-mail ? Where did it come from ? And, what was it that had to be done... in order to gain access to that sort of information ?
Odds are... there are some number of people who have already died because of the exposure of that information... which is THE POINT of trying to properly protect the information... to protect the people who are the sources... and the effectiveness of the collection programs, which depends on those people trusting us to keep their secrets, and keep them safe. Alternatively, the exposure of that sort of information... reveals methods, if not sources... and revealing methods that work to provide that kind of access... often results in those methods not continuing to work... meaning not only losing critical access to information in the future... but also meaning HUGE costs in money wasted... because that kind of mishandled data destroyed entire programs.
Directing the removal of classification stamps from information that remained classified.... is a clear violation of the law... and, that's one thing. Running a rogue personal intelligence agency through back channels, that is tasked with gaining "independent" access to highly sensitive information... essentially running an espionage caper that seems it included targeting sources inside our own government... or, who ? That effort now appears it has resulted in exposing highly classified information. It will be extremely interesting to see where things go from here, now...
I can tell you... whatever it is that the media response to this incident turns out to be ( and my guess is that they'll try hard to ignore it... or pretend to not understand it, as a pre-text to enable ignoring it... ) the news today is doing more than getting "a raised eyebrow". There are going to be a lot of people (who do understand this) who are looking at it today with two eyes very wide open, and mouths agape...
