Platinum is used in the making of auto catalytic convertors. In 2009 GM and Chrysler were in the throws of bankruptcy and the possible halt of production made the supply channel stuffed. That may have had a big impact as the current contract more than likely had no or very few buyers who would actually take delivery. Bob
