Artificial genome. DNA with amino acids that does not exist in natural DNA.

Yes, it still needs something from life to be viable. But that's likely technology issue, not something inherent in life forms.

If you're not religious, you can say that life came about by "random" chance.

If you are a believer, you could say that the creator set everything in motion, perhaps oversees it, perhaps not.

Chemistry follows specific pathways.

It's not random elements coming together to form random molecules.

Only certain molecules can form - a very large number, but not infinite (or if you are mathematically minded, an infinity that does not include all possibilities) - just like the the rabbit that cannot appear out of nowhere by sheer probability; it is out of the set of things that could happen.

And scientists do not sit around in their corners, chuckling evilly, thinking evil things in order to subvert God.
They are studying how God's creations work (whether they believe in God or not).
