I have been searching the net to find the what the Japanese really
own in US treasuries. Your post said they sold both notes and bonds.
Bonds are long term.
I am afraid that after this latest collapse there is going to be growing more and more anti-American sentiment..the US might start
being called the Robber Barons of the approaching millennium. If
more and more financial companies start buying out companies at fire
sale prices, more and more resentment might grow.
Also the more foreign mergers, the more job loss here.
Steven Lieb(sp) is saying that the dollar is a key indicator to inflation currently. If it starts sliding, it will create inflationary forces here. Lightbulb..I guess many investors
were aware of this and were not necessarily just viewing the dollar
as a safehaven instead of gold..but were just looking at gold traditionally as an inflation play so as long as the dollar is strong,
"the government reports of inflation" will be benign..
Lieb(sp) also is bullish on oil drillers..he said they are operating
on 98 percent capacity..
