Shane, nothing has received as much attention in this industry as Java and probably one of the most closely watched events was the vote by the ISO members on whether Java would become an international standard under submission by Sun Microsystems. Now, what you and many others on this thread probably are not aware of is how far advanced Sun's NOS is over Microsoft's NT and how difficult it will be for NT to even make a dent in that space. That's not opinion, it's fact. What you are seeing is small workgroups using NT and that's very dangerous for Sun and other down the road because NT can and will scale effectively at some point. Sun has to be successful in stopping the low-end with Solaris and Java and they are doing precisely that. Are you aware of the cross-licensing agreement Intel just signed with Sun? From Java-based rings and credit cards to massive power grid systems and everything in between, Sun is the dominant player. The real money is in Gatorade, Hershey bars, Gameboys, PCs and home appliances. Sun is moving down into this space while Microsoft tries to move up into theirs. Microsoft will fail, Sun won't.

Java is now an international standard:
