Boxing Day today over here and SI is as quiet as Auckland's roads were yesterday. So I get to bluster a bit - uninterrupted.

Chris, you said: "There is proof of the rising effort against the EVIL EMPIRE!!!!!!!!!! Get'em Bob!!!
Dole Is Helping
Efforts to Curb
Microsoft Plans "

Bipartisan? How about Tripartisan? What about the 60% of people who didn't even vote in the presidential election? What about the 20% of people who support free enterprise, capitalism, and all the best things about the USA? Who admire super achievers. Who are not envious or destructive of rich or famous or superior people.

Chris, you'll find me in the front lines against despots, thugs and criminals. But Bill G doesn't fit into any of my categories of bad people. I guess he is excessively noisy - talking in a too loud voice in restaurants as though he is the only person there. So I hear anyway. Also, he isn't so astute as a business person as others seem to think - he tried to stop software stealing, which if he had been successful would have set his empire back a decade. Now companies know you need to give a lot of it away to get people hooked then sell them on the better products. Train the poor up by letting them get less adequate versions free. He was slow on the Web and Microsoft Network was a dog. Didn't he also decry Java as a storm in a Teacup - beneath contempt. Also, don't even whisper it to anyone, but Qualcomm should clean him right out in a few years with the Anita[TM] W-cdmaOne Weblaster. The process is already underway.

What else is bad about Bill? Umm. Evil Empire? That is silly. He is as threatening as a labrador grinning from ear to ear. He can't control our email or anything else. He can make his stuff the best. If he is very lucky and goes like crazy. Then we might choose to use it. I use Netscape and Eudora, Windows 95 and the Web.

One day, if Janet Reno destroys Bill G's software business, that time might be looked back on in 50 years as being the beginning of the end of the great era of the USA. Be careful about killing and eating your Goose Who Lays Golden Eggs. Sure, you'll probably get a couple more eggs from the inside and have a decent feed for a day or two. Then what? Hope another goose is silly enough to start laying?
