Still OT:

Glad to see you're not turning bearish. I also believe that Asian problem will clear up. I think it came upon them in a real hurry due to the accellerated movements of information and capital that have developed in the last several years. It put some of the national leaders in shock, just as financial crises in the past have put investors in shock. The need for certain reforms in these countries came to light very quickly, and that bothers politicians and bureaucrats more than anything. That's because they can't escape or dance around the 21st century message which, in simplist terms is:

Move power from the "public" to the private sector, or suffer the consequences.

The Asian nations will be stronger than before, but only after they have made some of the necessary reforms. Any reforms they miss will bring more consequences down the road, and on and on until the world just becomes a better-run place, I can see something similar happening in Europe later if they insist, for instance, on forcing this common currency nonsense.

Rapid and free flow on information is actually a positive here, since the economic deficiencies of governments can no longer be kept as state secrets.

We're gonna LOVE the 21st century!

Happy investing for 1998.
