Residents of Hawaii will enroll in the federal Obamacare marketplace after Hawaii Health-Connector has shuttered.

In California, the state-run Covered-California network for Obamacare policies has become quite a powerhouse of inexpensive policies which have greatly reduced the annual increase in healthcare.

In the process we did change primary care Doctors, to one we much prefer.

If we had retained our existing very costly Blue Shield PPO policy, we would have needed to make the same change as Blue Shield changed all of their plans to a new network, dropping primary care Doctors like ours who were unusually fee oriented (frequent mandatory repeat visits) rather than healthcare oriented.

I've got to say we're very impressed with how this transition is changing healthcare in California.

There's one very costly hospital in the area, Cedars-Sinai, which is not available in the new Blue Shield network. If you're really impressed with them, there is a Covered-California plan which includes Cedars-Sinai, but only Cedars-Sinai in our area. So if you want that hospital for some reason you also have to take their Doctors. So they've obviously agreed to a total package cost. In time I'm pretty that's going to adjust as they've lost a lot potential patients going exclusive like that.

On the other hand, you can easily change plans each year, just in case you've developed some pressing desire to get your heart transplant at only at Cedars.
