My HP computers with Asus motherboards were purchased in the 2007 time-frame from Fry's Electronics and were boxed factory refurbs. Whether because they were refurbished or were victim of poor capacitor quality that prevailed, I don't know, but I do believe motherboards being manufactured today are of higher quality primarily because of solid capacitors being used with today's boards.
