So far as I'm concerned Microsoft has never had an adequate file manager since they introduced one in DOS 4 and I've used a 'Commander Style' dual pane 'Orthodox File Manager' (OFM) for 30 years starting with Norton Commander for DOS through its various versions then Symantec's Norton Commander for Windows. I subsequently used OnTrack/Avanquest's Power Desk introduced in the NT 4.0 Resource Kit. After experimenting with several Commander descendants I settled on Zabkat's xplorer2 when Windows 7 was introduced, starting with the free 'Lite' version then the paid version which I run on my secondary (Win7) desktop.
