A new exhibition opening this weekend at The Dali Museum in Florida promises to dazzle visitors through a virtual reality experience of one of Salvador Dali's paintings.

The "Disney and Dali: Architects of the Imagination" exhibition opening Jan 23 at the Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida explores the relationship between Salvador Dali and Walt Disney.

One of the exhibit's most original features is the "Dreams of Dali" immersive virtual reality experience of Dali's 1935 painting Archeological Reminiscence of Millet's Angelus.

"Dreams of Dali" will allow visitors to discover the world of the surrealist painter from a totally new angle. The exhibition will have three virtual reality stations with headsets that allow you to seemingly enter into the world of the painting for a three-dimensional, multisensory experience of the work and move around in it.

"Dali was always exploring new ways to express his art. We are proud to give our visitors the opportunity to experience and appreciate art in new ways; advancements in virtual reality allow us to provide an almost tangible view," said Dali Museum Marketing Director, Kathy Greif.

The "Dreams of Dali" project was developed by the San Francisco-based agency Goodby Silverstein & Partners in cooperation with The Dali.

In addition to the virtual reality stations, "Disney and Dali: Architects of the Imagination" will incorporate several original paintings, story sketches, conceptual art artworks, archival film, photographs, and correspondence between Walt Disney and Salvador Dali which shed light on the two 20th century icons and their personal and professional relationship.

The men had an enduring friendship and worked together on the animated short film, Destino, which will be played throughout the day in the museum's theatre and in excerpts in the exhibition gallery. The exhibition also features a free guided audio tour narrated by actress Sigourney Weaver.

"Disney and Dali: Architects of the Imagination" is co-organised by the Walt Disney Family Museum and The Dali Museum, with the collaboration of the Fundació Gala-Salvador Dali and The Walt Disney Company.

It will be open from Jan 23 through June 12. Entrance to the exhibition is included in the admission price to the museum. — AFP Relaxnews
