Get a gadget from Amazon that lets you charge your phone in your car. It's saved my bacon more than once and it's always available as long as your car will start.
They cost $10 to $20 at Amazon.
I took mine when I went sailing on the SF Bay to watch the Blue Angels and it kept my phone well charged while uploading pictures to facebook.

I also bought a Sears car battery charger this year. It will start a dead battery on your car and it also has a USB port to use during power failures.
