Supposedly athletic shoes are out of style now, but I was at Disneyland yesterday, and at least 90% of everyone there wore athletic shoes. My point is that we all own several pairs of athletic shoes now. This was not true in 1975, where many adults, especially females, might not have owned any athletic shoes at all. It seems to be true that athletic shoes are not the fashion rage at the moment, but something much bigger has happened. They have crossed the line from fashion to clothing.

Fasion comes and goes, but clothing endures. Billions of people around the world on a regular basis will continue to purchase athletic shoes, just as they purchase pants and shirts. The long term growth prospects for a good retailer like FEET are enormous. The Asian crises won't be the last this world or this market will face, but through it all people will continue to buy shoes.
