conservativetribune.com businessinsider.com When the government owns most of the land (and exercises a lot of control over what it doesn't own), you get political battles about the land. Better to let much of that land go to private ownership, and maybe some to state ownership then having the feds control all of it. Take a look at Nevada. Its almost totally owned by the feds.
