Oracle is selling NC systems. It started a Network Computing JumpStart Program three weeks ago.

NEW YORK, Dec. 10, 1997-At Internet World today, Oracle Corp. announced an offering combining products and services to introduce customers and partners rapidly to the benefits of Network Computing. The Network Computing JumpStart Program lets customers begin designing Network Computing projects and operate their own installation of network computers in two days and is in response to the high demand for rapid implementation and more knowledge concerning Network Computing and network computers.

"We've found our customers to be extremely interested and ready to move ahead quickly with Network Computing and network computer devices," said Shari Simon, vice president of Americas Network Computing Business Development and NT Solution Sales. "What they've needed is to get this technology in-house, and a full understanding of the next steps to make it pay off for their organization. The Network Computing JumpStart Program addresses this and is just one of Oracle's introductory offerings to Network Computing. Our divisions offer a wide range of services to bring a customer's business to the Web, including Java, systems integration and networking consulting, education on Internet software development, business process change management, and technical support."

The Network Computing JumpStart Program for customers includes on-site installation of network computers and training on server administration and customization. Network computer client hardware and software is included. The second day of the program provides business and technical sessions explaining how Network Computing can make an organization more profitable and how to implement complete projects.

A key benefit of the program is aligning Network Computing technology with a customer's business goals. These goals can include increasing sales through electronic commerce performed on consumer network computers, or broadly delivering information to business managers from a data warehouse through Web browsers. Oracle applies a "Solutions Framework" to these goals that maps out the complete functionality and services needed by the project, locates essential software and hardware, and designs the custom consulting needed to rapidly complete the solution.

The program is also being made available to a wide range of Oracle partners. It will help them to build software or resell services based on Network Computing and network computers. They will also learn through the JumpStart Program presentations how Network Computing can add to their competitive advantage.

Pricing & Availability

The Network Computing JumpStart Program includes two network computers, software and SmartCards for five users, two days of consulting, and technical support for one year. Any number of additional network computers can be purchased. The program is available in North and South America, with a price in the U.S. of $7,995. In the near future, additional software and network computers from multiple vendors will be available through the program.
