Unemployment in the Washington Area by County – September 201519 of 22 Area Counties Posted Unemployment Rates below the National Average
In September, Arlington County, Va., had the lowest unemployment rate in the Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, D.C.-Va.-Md.-W.Va. Metropolitan Statistical Area at 2.8 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Sheila Watkins, the Bureau’s regional commissioner, noted that the District of Columbia had an unemployment rate of 6.9 percent, the highest among the 22 counties that make up the metropolitan area. Prince George’s County had the second-highest rate at 5.1 percent and was the only other county in the area with a jobless rate that exceeded the 4.9-percent U.S. rate. The unemployment rate for Charles County, Md., matched that for the U.S., while the rates for the remaining 18 counties in the area ranged from 4.7 percent in Fredericksburg City, Va., to 3.0 percent in Falls Church City, Va.
